TOP TORY TALKS ON CRIME


Shadow Lord Chancellor Nick Herbert MP visited Bexleyheath on Friday evening (25/1/08) to speak to the Bexleyheath and Crayford Conservative Supper club. The event held at the Bexleyheath Conservative club was attended by 60 members and was organised by Association Deputy Chairman Iris Kempton and Brampton Branch Chairman Cllr. Ron French. Among the guests were  Bexleyheath and Crayford MP David Evennett and his wife Marilyn, Deputy Leader of Bexley Council Cllr. Teresa O'Neill, Association Chairman Joe Pollard and  Brampton Ward Councillor John Wilkinson.

Mr. Herbert spoke about the need for more prisons, tough action on crime and anti-social behaviour, the importance of mending Britains "broken society" and the structure of the courts system. He criticised the Labour government for failing to tackle the causes of crime, and the appalling early release scheme and highlighted the growing concerns about drink and drug related crime.

After his speech Mr. Herbert answered members questions on a wide variety of issues concerning the police, crime, sentencing and illegal immigration before drawing the raffle.
